As is customary in history, everything has a beginning and an end. The beginning is marked by th umping and joyous celebrations, the end, with a stoic, heroic note of the influence marked. A city, like the people dwelling there, is just as influential and mention worthy.
The beautiful, culturally rich city of Jaipur, fondly known as the Pink City, was established in 1727 AD by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, as an emblem of the invincible strength of the Mewar Empire. Once the cornerstone was laid down by the Maharaja on November 18, 1727, it took 4 years for the planning and boundary fortification of the city. After the death of the Maharaja in 1744 and in absence of any rightful heir, Jaipur was left open to invasion by outsiders and wealth mongers. Most of the city was captured by the Marathas and Rajputs. Jaipur got its trademark pink heritage with the rule of Maharaja Ram Singh in 1876, as he decorated the city for welcoming the prince of Wales. In addition to adorning Jaipur in Pink, Maharaja Ram Singh also built the Ramgarh Lake, to provide water to the budding city. The present city of Jaipur as it is known today, was established in architecture as well as economy by Maharaja Man Singh II. It was him who built the secretariat, museum, hospitals and other buildings of great artistic and historic relevance. As India got its independence, the provinces merged with each other to form separate entities of larger areas. Jaipur, following the tradition, was merged with the provinces of Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Bikaner to form the culturally rich and morally brave state of Rajasthan, the largest state of India. Jaipur truly is a city of marvels and endless statutory wonders. But that’s not all. As profusely infused it is with plush shades of Pink culture, it is also a happening place for a thousand new innovations, a blissful night life, and a stunning mirage of beautiful, ethereal dreams.
